Class Weekly Update - Spring 2, Week 5 (22.3.18)

Mr Rutter - 22 Mar 2018

This week we have been showing off all of our skills in our end of term assessments. The children have been really positive and showed a great growth mind-set with all of the challenges they have been working on.

We have written our own stories based upon a short video clip called ‘Taking Flight’. We enjoyed watching a bored and gloomy little boy share an adventure of imagination with his grandad (including some horrible red-eyed monkeys!). The children have thought about how they would describe different parts of the story and the feelings of the characters. I have been really impressed with the effort and presentation of their work (it’ll be hard to choose just one writer of the week!). We also spent some time looking at the Railway Children together as a class – we really used our comprehension skills to understand how the different characters were feeling at different points in the story. There were some tricky words too, and we remembered to use our phonics to help us.

Our maths has focused on showing what we remember about multiplication and division in our assessment, and making links to our work on fractions. We will be continuing our fractions work as we go into next week.
On Monday we created some amazing pieces of artwork by creating some printing blocks with string placed on top of a photo of a mode of transport. We then painted the string black and used this to print our lovely monochrome pictures – they are simple but very effective!

We have finished off our work related to sea transport by thinking about explorers from the past – such as Christopher Columbus and Captain Cook. We talked a lot about how dangerous voyages were in those days and how they discovered whole new continents.

Next week we will be launching into space... 10, 9, 8...
