Class Weekly Update - 20th September 2018

Mr Rutter - 20 Sep 2018

I can't believe another week has gone! The children have been working so hard and are coping really well with the challenges of moving up to their next year of school.

In our English work, the children have been thinking about what makes a sentence. We came up with some rules as a class and used these to check our own sentences. Later in the week we have been writing our own stories. Linked to our Jack and the Beanstalk theme, we put Jack on trial in our classroom. We had lots of witnesses to call, including the Giant, Mrs Giant and the hen. After hearing the evidence, our jury decided that Jack was guilty of theft and harming the giant. Not only that, they decided that Jack's mum should also be sent to prison for not making Jack return the stolen items.

We have been working hard on our place value understanding in Maths. We have been breaking numbers up into different combinations (e.g. 32 can be split lots of ways: 30+2, 15+17, 10+22, 5+ 27 etc). We have also been thinking about one more and one less. Earlier in the week we spent some time working on some reasoning skills in groups - I was really impressed with the vocabulary that the children were using.

On Monday we had a fantastic time at Messy Church! We spent lots of time thinking about our christian values during this session.
