Class Weekly Update - 25th October 2018

Mr Rutter - 25 Oct 2018

A very busy week for Oak Class to finish our half-term! We have been working very hard, and I think all of the children are ready for a well-earned rest now.

In our writing we have been looking at the story of the Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde. We looked at the moral of the story and then created our own story maps. We used our story maps to create our own story in a similar style. We had some great stories about nosey giants, sad giants and forgetful giants! We have also been finishing our BFG story together, we have a couple more pages to finish tomorrow (just in time for half-term!).

We have been continuing with our addition and subtraction work this week with Y2 looking at related facts and adding ones to numbers, and Y1 looking at the concept of addition and what it means. We will be continuing our addition and subtraction work after the break, so please keep thinking about this at home too. As discussed with many parents at our Learning Review Meetings, it would be helpful to get the children to look at money at home to build up their recognition of coins. Perhaps half-term is a good time to get out the money boxes to have a count of our savings?

At the start of the week the whole school were being crafty in messy church - this time we were thinking about remembrance and getting prepared for the forthcoming centenary. We have made lots of poppies for our special installment which will be displayed at school in November.

It has been a busy and productive half-term - thank you to all the children for their hard work. I hope you all have a good rest over half-term.
