Class Weekly Update - 14th February 2019

Mr Rutter - 14 Feb 2019

I wonder if the children feel as tired as the adults in Oak Class? We have had an incredible week!

We started off the week with our visit to Outwood for the Multi-skills event. The children were challenged to complete different activities ranging from agility tasks to throwing. We were very impressed by the leaders at Outwood, and of course our children were great at representing Kirkby School.

In our maths work we have continued looking at multiplication by making arrays. We needed to understand some new vocabulary including ‘columns’ and ‘rows’. We thought about how arrays link to making equal groups and how it was more efficient to organise resources into rows and columns to understand multiplication patterns.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we spent some time this afternoon reflecting on what ‘love’ is. We came up with some big questions to consider – Is all love the same? Do we have to like someone to love them? Can we ever stop loving someone? Why do we need love? The children discussed these ideas with some great respect and could build on the ideas that others had suggested.

On Tuesday morning we arrived at school feeling very excited for our trip to Bolton Castle. We had an amazing day! I’m sure the children will have talked about what they did whilst we were there, but highlights included marching with spears and wooden swords, writing with real quills and ink, some medieval dancing, trying on helmets and holding a real sword. The children have been writing about our day in our English work and we plan to share our writing tomorrow. There are plenty of photographs!
