Class Weekly Update - 9th May 2019

Mr Rutter - 09 May 2019

After a long (and exciting) weekend, the children have come in to school ready to focus and show off in their learning. Year 2 have been trying really hard with their reading assessments – we are all so proud of how mature they have been.

The children have started to come up with some things that they want to find out about Australia and the UK. There were some interesting questions!

“Do they have electricity in Australia?”
“What are houses like in Australia?”
“Do they all speak English?”
“What is school like in Australia?”
“What sports do they play?”
“Who was the first person in Australia?”
“What is music like there?”
“What animals do they have?”
“Do they have a King or Queen?

We are certainly going to have a busy term!!! We will be finding the answers to these (and many more) questions over the next couple of months.

In our English work this week, we have started looking at our class text based on the wildlife of the UK – the Wind in the Willows. So far we have been introduced to Mole, Ratty, Badger and Mr Toad. We have started planning our own descriptions of these characters and will be writing them tomorrow morning! We have been thinking about the different adjectives and adverbs that might help us create a good picture of what these characters are like.

In our maths work we have been recapping some of our work on money. We all have a good recognition of coins (thank you for all your work at home on this!) and we have been looking at how we can make the same amount using different combinations of coins. Today we looked at how we read thermometers where they are scaled (e.g. in 5s). We looked at scales of 1, 2, 5 and 10 – so our counting in different jumps has really helped us today!

Don’t forget, tomorrow we have Urban Strides visiting school! Children are to come dressed in suitable clothing for an indoor dance workshop (jogging bottoms, leggings, t-shirts, jumpers and comfortable shoes are advisable).
