Class Weekly Update - 16th May 2019

Mr Rutter - 16 May 2019

After an amazing day last Friday with our Urban Strides dancing workshop, we have come back to school focused and ready to learn. This week we have been really focused on our Wind in the Willows writing. We started off by gathering ideas about how we would describe the different settings within the text. There was the calm and peaceful riverbank (Ratty’s favourite place!), the wintry and frightening Wild Wood and the comfortable home of Mr Badger. We came up with some amazing adjectives and adverbs and used these in our own setting descriptions. Later in the week we wrote some poetry inspired by rivers – making use of some of those brilliant describing words in a different way! We thought about how we could use devices like alliteration and onomatopoeia to make our poetry interesting for the reader.

On Wednesday afternoon we drew and painted our own illustrations for the Wind in the Willows. There were some lovely works of art! We will put these up in the cloakroom for you to see soon.

We have been looking at shape again this week in our maths work – particularly looking at symmetry and then the properties of 3D shapes. There are some tricky words that we need to remember: vertices, edges and faces! Quiz the children about this at home to see if they can remember!

Next week is our final week of the half-term! We have a lot to squeeze in, including our maths SATs for Year 2. Please inform the office as soon as possible if your child is not in for any reason – please do remember that if your child is just a bit sniffly in the morning, it is worth them coming in and we can always send them home if they get any worse. Have a lovely weekend!
