Class Weekly Update - 13th June 2019

Mr Rutter - 13 Jun 2019

This week we have been very busy! We have been doing lots of research for our Australian Animals projects. We are becoming experts about the different animals we are researching - crocodiles, koalas, kangaroos, dingoes, platypuses, kookaburras, emus, Tasmanian devils, wombats and great white sharks. We have found out some amazing facts and we plan to record what we have found out into documentaries to share with Palm Class. We have even made our own clay models of our animals - once they are dry we will be painting them the correct colours. It took a lot of perseverance to get the animals to be the correct shape (and sometimes have the right number of limbs!).

In our maths work we have been recapping the four operations. We were specifically looking at how we use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division within the context of word problems. There is such a broad range of words which can be used for these operations, so any reinforcement of this vocabulary at home would be fantastic.

Here is a reminder to help:

This week we have also been learning about Captain James Cook. We have found out that he was born in Yorkshire and he had some really interesting adventures around the world. The children have been finding out about how he got to Australia as the first person from Great Britain to get there.

In our writing, we have been thinking about our own Fantastic Mr Fox story ideas - we have been coming up with alternative animals to write about. We have had "Tired Mr Tortoise" and "Mischievous Mrs Monkey". I am looking forward to reading the finished stories when they are finished! Tomorrow I will be sharing some exciting news about a writing opportunity where we can make some links with Australia! Ask the children tomorrow!
