Class Weekly Update - 19th September 2019

Mr Rutter - 19 Sep 2019

What a great week we have had!

We have thought a lot about families this week - from what we call the babies of different animals in our science work, to thinking about different types of families in our topic work. The children had some fantastic discussion about how families are not all the same, but are full of love. We shared lots of thoughts about our own families and extended families and even one or two funny stories!

In our maths work, we have been looking at our counting strategies to ensure that when we count resources and pictorial representations of numbers we are being very careful. We had some great suggestions, such as making sure that things were all in a neat line, or moving them from one place to another as we count. Today we looked at representing real objects with our maths resources, pictures and simple dots - this will save us time when we are doing our maths work!

In our English work, we have been thinking about what sentences are. We decided 4 main rules:
- They have to make sense (we need to understand what the sentence is telling us!).
- They need to start with a capital letter.
- They need to have something at the end to tell us that the sentence is finished (a full stop for most of our sentences).
- They need to have finger spaces between every word.

We spent some time looking at examples of correct sentences and incorrect sentences and sorted them. We had to think about our rules to make sure we had sorted them properly. Today we had a go at using these skills when writing a postcard from Paddington Bear.

Dates and Reminders:
- As per last week's update, please note that PE lessons will now take place on Mondays, and Eco will be on Thursday afternoons.
- Tomorrow is Jeans for Genes - the children can wear jeans to school for £1 (they should wear the rest of their uniform as usual).
- We have a special Bikeability assembly tomorrow morning just after 9am. This is instead of a normal celebration assembly at 3.30pm. We will still have our Stars of the Week.
- Next week's homework will be given out tomorrow (in reading records). Please let me know if you have any questions.
