Weekly Update - 6th February 2020

Miss Oates - 06 Feb 2020

Last week ended on a huge celebration for Oak class as we won two awards as a class in celebration assembly. Our first award was for being the class with the best attendance - this meant we had the most days with everybody in school and on time! Well done! We were then elated to find out that we had been chosen by Mrs Taylor and her 'secret squirrels' as the class to receive Percy the Practically Perfect Penguin. Mrs Taylor spoke about how proud she was of the way the children were respecting their classroom as well as their behaviour for learning in class and their behaviour around school. We are still loving having Percy in our classroom and are working hard to try and keep hold of him.

We started this week with a big writing focus...we have been analysig our story 'leaf' and then used story ladders to create our own version of the story. We had some fabulous ideas which we have now turned into our own stories. We have just about finished our drafts and are beginning to edit our work to make it even better. Soon we will be ready to 'publish' our stories. We hope to share these with you when they are ready.

We have made huge improvements with our reading challenge score this week - we managed a huge 84% !!! Unfortunately we were just pipped to the post by Palm class who also worked incredibly hard and achieved 88%. Keep going Oak class - let's keep aiming for 100%. You may have noticed this week that your child has begun to write in their reading record. This reading has taken place in one of our 'DEAR' sessions - Drop Everything And Read. I was delighted to see the enthusiam the children had for just stopping to enjoy reading a book and sharing this with a friend. Your child may choose to read to lots of different friends in this session and if they do, we will count this as one point to add to our reading challenge points.

In Maths we have been using our investigation skills and knowledge to look for patterns with our numbers. The year 1s have been looking at using all their place value and calculation skills together for one number and the year 2s have been looking at the relationship between multiplication, division and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Spellings are now on the 'homework' tab. This will be an accumaltive list of words the children need to be able to spell fluently. The year 1s and 2s have different spelling lists - more is explained on teh homework tab.

Don't forget to check the 'homework' tab to find out what our tongue twister and rhyme has been this week.

We look forward to seeing you in our Community Collective Worship tomorrow morning at 9 am in the shcool hall.
