Weekly Homework

Mr Rutter - 06 Oct 2019

KS1 Homework

We listen to the children read at school, however in order to become fluent readers, they need to be reading regularly at home. To build fluency, reading 5 times a week (for 5-10 minutes each time) will make a huge difference. This will give the children the opportunity to put their phonics knowledge into practise and begin to recognise some words by sight (high frequency words like 'and' & 'said'). Whilst reading it is also important to begin to ask the children questions about what they are reading. These may be linked to the structure of texts (particularly for non-fiction) and comprehension-based questions. If you would like any support with the types of questions you can ask - please speak to Mr Rutter.

Spelling homework is stuck into reading records each Friday. The homework sets out challenges related to your child's phonics and spelling learning in class from the week. We anticipate that the homework should not take long to complete - much like reading 5-10 minutes of practise a day will make a massive difference!

On Fridays we also have a spelling quiz to see what we can rememeber - this is to help the team know what spelling patterns we don't feel as confident about yet.
