Weekly Update - 22nd March 2018

20 Mar 2018

The children have shown great stamina and determination this week as we worked hard on completing our assessments. They completed assessments in reading, maths and spelling, punctuation and grammar. I was very proud of the children's attitudes towards the assessments - they showed great skills and I am sure they will have made lots of progress. In English we have written our own 'spooky' stories inspired by 'Room 13'. The children worked on drafting and editing their stories as they wrote them - we have even squeezed in time to share our exciting writing with the rest of the class - it has really been very impressive! We had great fun in Maths on Wednesday with a chocolate fractions lesson. We had bars of chocolate on each table and had to decide which table to sit at in order to get the greatest fraction of chocolate. There was lots of fantastic reasoning and problem solving discussions happening. Our Art lessons this week have focussed on the art of local artists who use the Yorkshire Dales as inspiration, so we have looked at the work of Mackenzie Thorpe and Lucy Pittaway. We have also shared our facts about David Hockney and used some of his landscape paintings to inspire our own art. We are hoping to create a display of all of our 'local art' for everyone to admire. Enjoy a restful weekend!
