Weekly Update - 24th January 2019

We have had a really busy week in Palm Class lots of fun learning and great activities. In English we have continued to study stories from India. We have thought carefully about our descriptive language and how we can use metaphors and similes to support us with our descriptions. We have really enjoyed coming up with descriptive paragraphs about the 'banyan tree' and next week are going to continue these ideas as we start to build our own story.

In maths we have continued to focus on multiplication and division - learning some written strategies for multiplication such as the grid method. We have worked hard to use the mental methods we have practised to help us when writing down calculations. We are going to return to written methods for multiplication and division before the half-term holiday.

In Art, Mr Anson taught us about rangoli patterns and their importance in Indian culture. We then used paper, card and paper plates to create our own rangoli designs - they look really stunning! Our geography focus was on human and physical features of geography - sorting famous landmarks in India and in R.E we have learnt about Hindu places of worship.

Palm Class have acted incredibly responsibly this week - really taking on the challenge of becoming the oldest pupils in school whilst Cedar Class enjoyed time in Ingleborough - I am very proud of the great example they have set!

This week as part of our collective worship we have been thinking about Jesus as the bread of life

‘I am the bread of life’ John 6:32-35

We have looked at the teaching of Jesus in the Bible, we shared our ideas about the ‘feeding of the five thousand’.We have also deepened our understanding of the work of charities such as food banks. We have thought about how we can help others.

Our wonder for the end of the week is ‘I wonder how you could help others and sustain them like Jesus did?’
