Weekly Update - 21st March 2019

20 Mar 2019

In our mathematics lessons this week we have turned our attention to fractions - investigating fractions as part of a whole and learning important vocabulary connected to fraction like 'unit', 'non-unit', 'numerator' and 'denominator'. We have found fractions of objects and some children have thought about fractions which are equivalent to a half and a whole. There was also great excitement when some children took part in the 'chocolate challenge' - there was three tables - one set out with one bar of chocolate, one set out with two bars of chocolate and the third one had three bars of chocolate. Twelve children had to decide where to sit to get the most chocolate; there was great reasoning and forward thinking from all of the children involved!

In our English lessons we have continued to think about writing to entertain. In order to write our own stories next week we have spent time investigating story structures - both from traditional written stories, but also visual texts.

We have linked our geography work with art this week - thinking about signs and symbols which we strongly connect with India and using graphic pencils to create a design based around a map of India. We really enjoyed finding out which pencils made which shades.

Several of our children are taking part in the concert at Harrogate tomorrow. For those who are not, they will remain in school; there will be no Eco-Schools in the afternoon, however, so children will need to wear school uniform.
