Weekly Update - 19th September 2019

16 Sep 2019

What a great week! The children continue to impress me with their learning. It's hard to believe that the children have only been in Palm Class for two weeks - the new knowledge they have gained is amazing. Ask them to tell you all about prefixes, suffixes, rounding and embedded clauses! We also enjoyed spending time with Dave from 'I Want to Ride My Bike' and celebrating our start of term service at church.

In our maths lessons we have focussed on rounding. The children have coped with this tricky concept well and moved on rapidly to reasoning and problem solving. In English we have worked on punctuation skills, including using commas for embedded clauses. We really enjoyed using our senses to imagine what life would be like during an air-raid - touching soil and stones, tasting bovril and ovaltine and listening to sound effects. We used these skills to form a plan to describe a setting - the writing was looking amazing this afternoon!

In our art lesson we continued to explore graphic pencils by creating portraits of Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill. Our computing session focussed on creating avatars to continue our e-safety topic. We have also thoroughly enjoyed engaging with our class story 'The Machine Gunners' and our whole-class reading text 'An Elephant in the Garden' - see if the children can summarises the stories so far at home!
