Weekly Update - 24th October 2019

21 Oct 2019

Eight weeks seems like a long time but it really has flown by! The children have made such a vast amount of progress over the last half-term in all areas of the curriculum and with their learning behaviours. I am so proud of what they have all achieved - they really deserve a week of rest and exciting adventures!

In our English lessons this week we have written the culmination of all of our learning - our alternative story. We used ideas we collected from reading 'The Machine Gunners' to write our own story set during WWII - the characters had to find an object, just like Chas in our class story did. It was great to see children using similes, metaphors, powerful language and great openers.

In our maths sessions we have started to investigate addition. We began by discussing vocabulary and using concrete resources to demonstrate addition. We then became really competent at adding when no carrying was required - solving problems and reasoning.

We have worked hard as artists this week - developing our understanding of collage and experimenting with collaging tissue papers. We then put this into action by designing our own blitz collages, choosing hot colours to represent the hot fiery sky.

Today was our 'French Day'. We will be having one French day a term so we can really focus on our language skills. Today we learnt about the etymology of some French words, found out about French culture and learnt French greetings and exchanges.

We also enjoyed our tennis coaching session on Wednesday afternoon - we hope to be able to arrange another one for next half term.

Have a wonderful half -term holiday!
