Weekly Update - 21st November 2019

19 Nov 2019

We have had a really busy week! We are all looking forward to the Carol Concert on 2nd December at Holy Trinity Church and our Learning Review meetings next Tuesday. If you have not had chance to book a lot, please do let me know.

This week we have continued our subtraction focus in our maths lessons. We have learnt how to borrow and exchange from the numbers next door, using all of our place value skills to ensure that the calculations make sense. We have also thought about how in addition it didn't matter which order the addends were in (because it's commutative!) but subtraction is not.

In English we have continued to use 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' as a stimulus for writing. The children have had lots of questions about refugees - it's great to hear their empathy and understanding. We have used two foods Ahmet is introduced to - sherbet lemons and pomegrantes to get our senses working and inspire some poetry writing. It is fantastic to see the children becoming more familiar with descriptive techniques.

In Computing we began using our understanding of the internet to start a blog page about Palm Class; in History we have researched 'D-Day' and we have been very spoilt by lots of wartime artifacts coming into school. Thank you for letting us share them!

Just a note about jewellery and earrings in P.E-  the new policy from North Yorkshire County Council states that all jewellery and earrings should be removed. Unfortunately teachers and teaching assistants are not permitted to assist with this for health and safety reasons. Therefore, if your child wears earrings they should not wear them on P.E days or be taught how to remove them themselves. We thank you for your understanding and co-operation in this health and safety matter.
