Weekly Update - 17th January 2020

14 Jan 2020

We have really got ourselves settled back into a routine this week and the children have worked very hard.

We are now taking part in 'Target Time' each morning. Alongside our 'Fluent in Five' and handwriting jobs, children are using this time to further develop their work through DIRT or next step time - sometimes this is with an adult and sometimes independently. The children are really starting to spot their own errors and mistakes for correction!

In our maths learning we have started the term by investigating multiplication. We have learnt lots about informal methods of multiplication and many of us are finding arrays a useful tool for working out some tricky number sentences. We have also rehearsed our key multiplication facts and linked these to corresponding division facts - even managing to squeeze in some reasoning and problem solving throughout the week.

In our English sessions we have really enjoyed discovering more about Whitby - a town which links closely to our class novel and our geography topic. We have revised different sentence types to help us draft our own introduction to an information text. We are all very excited about sending the finished texts to the Tourist Information Centre in Whitby to share with real-life visitors.

In Science this week the children have investigated shadows with Mr Anson, in computing the children began to use paint software to become publishers, as geographers we have learnt more about famous landmarks across the UK and in P.E we all enjoyed our games session in the fresh air developing throwing and catching skills using ultimate frisbees.

What a busy week!
