Weekly Update 19th November 2020

19 Nov 2020

We have had a very active week in Palm Class. We have been exercising lots with our morning and afternoon skipping/fitness activities along with beginning our daily mile. Another activity that your children may be interested in is the YST After School Sport Club.
The Youth Sport Trust have taken the step to deliver a free virtual after school club as part of a national response to the second lockdown. The 30-minute club will take place at 5pm each weekday and be led by a different member of the YST’s athlete mentor network, starting on Thursday 12 November with world no.1 female inline skater and 10-time British Champion Jenna Downing. The After School Sport Club will then run for five weeks until December 18 and children and young people can take part live by visiting our YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/YouthSportTrust
We have been doing a lot of work on the benefits of a good night’s sleep in PHSCE so hopefully all this exercise will be helping Palm Class sleep soundly at night.

We have started looking at subtraction in Maths this week and we are using lots of resources to help us exchange accurately when we need to. I have set the children up with a log in to some online homework for Maths and their log in details can be found at the front of their reading record. I will send this home tomorrow with a letter explaining everything. If you have any problems with it then please do not hesitate to get in touch. It will be the first time we have used it so we may experience some teething troubles.

We are continuing our work on ‘The Lost Happy Endings’ in English and have completed a character study of Jub. Next week we are learning how to write a letter of application for Jub’s job and the qualities needed. This should be a super piece of writing to end a wonderful topic.

We are continuing our work on The Victorians and have been looking at the similarities and differences between life then and now. Looking at a Victorian school room and Sainsburys was interesting! We have also been looking at important people of the Victorian era beginning with Dr Barnado and Mrs Beeton.

Mrs Taylor wrote to Palm Class this week to tell us how impressed she was with our ideas for encouraging more wildlife into our school environment. She has said we can take it on as our class project, planning it in the winter months to implement in the spring. We are also tasked with raising funds for the project so please get your thinking caps on. The children have suggested a pyjama day and a bake sale which will be a great start, but any other ideas would be very welcome!

Have a lovely weekend and please don’t forget to share any pictures of your grass heads.
