Weekly Update 31st January 2019

Mrs Wolfe - 31 Jan 2019

We had a quiet start to the week with a lot of tired pupils on Monday morning!  However we soon perked up whilst reflecting on and recounting our week away.  It has been fantastic to hear what a wonderful time the children had.  They’ve begun to write thank you letters to their instructors for all their support – it has been great fun hearing lots of additional tales and anecdotes.

Maths learning this week has focused on converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa.

R.E. has had a focus on tolerance and respect, looking at diversity in our locality.  It has been interesting to explore the different religions and places of worships within Yorkshire and the children are keen to develop this learning further.

Today was a special day as we had a visitor joining us in school from SIAMS.  Mrs Knowles visited our school to look at our ethos, with a focus on Kirkby Malzeard as a church school.  The children were, as always, fantastic.  Pupils from Cedar spoke eloquently to our visitor and were brilliant ambassadors of our school.  Noah and Will H delivered an excellent Class Worship this afternoon to the class, our visitor and Mrs Peacock.  They did a great job, ably assisted by Sofia and Matilda.  I am very proud of all of our pupils and how well they represented us throughout the day.

For anyone listening to Radio 2 on Tuesday – you will have heard the launch of the 500 Words competition.  Cedar has begun preparing for this annual competition and we are excited to be participating once again.  We’ve had great success in the past with lots of Cedar pupils getting shortlisted.  Last year Alphe was shortlisted, which was a real celebration.
Reminders:
  • Tomorrow pupils will return to their Eco-school work with Mrs Buggy.  Pupils may come to school to in their eco clothes.  Remember to wrap up warm!
  • On Monday we have our Candlemas service at St. Andrew's Church at 2.30pm.
  • Sign2Sing - you are welcome to join us for our special performance at school on Tuesday afternoon at 1pm.

This week as part of our collective worship we have been thinking about Jesus as the light of the world.

‘I am the light of the world’ John 8:12

We have looked at the teaching of Jesus in the Bible and we shared our ideas about how Jesus guides us. The children shared their ideas about the contrast of light and darkness and how this is much more than the difference between day and night. We thought that when life feels dark Jesus will help us through it.
