Weekly Update 4th April 2019

Mrs Wolfe - 04 Apr 2019

Pupils in Cedar have worked extremely hard this week, completing their end of spring term assessments.  Well done to you all for your focused and conscientious attitudes to the tests.  Developing strategies and skills for assessment is very important and it is great to see the children putting them into action.

In maths Y5 pupils have been working on problem solving in measure and Y6 have been tackling coordinates problems – pupil confidence in problem solving really seems to be improving and it is brilliant to see strategies being utilised.

Our English focus has been developing description in informative writing.  Pupils have been using their descriptive language to create alternative pronouns and develop expanded noun phrases.  I am looking forward to the finished pieces.

Topic work has continued with our learning about Darwin.  This week we have explored his work as a geologist, creating haikus that determine his achievements.

Science work has looked at geological processes that Darwin explored – pupils used chocolate to investigate that slow and gradual processes can lead to large effects.

On Tuesday we enjoyed a fabulous ‘Skip 2B Fit’ workshop.  Pupils worked on balance, timing and footwork ‘2B the best that YOU Can B’.  Watch this space for more Skip 2B Fit news…

We’ve had some more wonderful news this week…Mrs Pawson confirmed that out Tour De Yorkshire bid has been accepted.  We are therefore looking forward to creating some fantastic pictures and land art for this event.  To follow up this art work we will be interpreting our creative talents through a street dance workshop with the amazing Urban Strides!  Cedar pupils are very excited and looking forward to these forthcoming events.

Next Wednesday we are heading off to Grassington with our friends from St Nicholas to visit the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.  Please let me know if you have not received an email regarding this.

Our ambassadors are heading off to Bishop Monkton Primary on Tuesday afternoon to meet with other ambassadors from the cluster to discuss our forthcoming recycling project.  We’re looking forward to hearing all about the next steps for this.

It was lovely to see some of our families at Bunny Bingo this evening.  A lot of eggs were being won!  Squares for the giant egg are being sold on the playground each morning by Cedar pupils.  The ‘Decorate an Egg’ competition theme this year is ‘Icons’.  We’re looking forward to seeing who inspires our pupils when entries arrive next week.

Another thank you to all parents and pupils for their attendance at learning reviews this week.  Cedar pupils have shared their achievements and targets and it has been another great opportunity to celebrate progress.  If you haven’t managed to book your appointment please do let me know ASAP, thank you.
