Weekly Update Thursday 11th April 2024

11 Apr 2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

KS2 Immersive Workshop - Science
On Monday 15th April, Emma from Love Science is coming into school to do a workshop with KS2 children.  They will be sheep tracking their Light unit from the last academic year.  In the hour they will be investigating:
UV Paint - Using UV paint we can discover the power of the sun.
Spinning optical illusion - Using the trick of light and our brain to create optical illusions.
Splitting light - We use defection glasses and prisms to split light and create rainbows
Make LED torches - to show how the colours of light mix (made red, blue and green, when they mix you get the secondary colours).
We hope that they are able to embed their learning through practical and fun experiences!

Forest school Friday
To support our Golden Thread further, Helen will be running a morning forest school session for each class on a Friday morning based around understanding and embracing the wider world.  Please come dressed in forest school kit with appropriate clothing and footwear to be outside all morning.

Acorn Class - 12th April 2024
Palm Class - 19th April 2024
Oak Class - 26th April 2024
Cedar Class - 3rd May 2024

Brass Band
In the last week of Spring term we had a fantastic visit from Ripon City Band members who performed music to us and showed us their brass instruments (and hosepipes!). Many of the children were very keen on the idea of learning an instrument and we would like to encourage you to discuss this with them and see if it is something they might take up.

There are various opportunities to learn instruments in school - for any instrument you can get in touch with the Music Hub directly:
https://northyorkshiremusichub.co.uk/general-information-nyc-music-service/

We are also in talks with a private brass teacher who already teaches one of our pupils about coming into school to deliver group lessons. More details to follow, or contact Mrs Harris to express interest: b.harris@kirkbymalzeard.n-yorks.sch.uk

See below, in Wider Community news for further details about the Ripon band.
