Home Learning - Spring Term

Miss Oates - 18 Mar 2021

Home Learning

Reading:
Please read your school reading book everyday at home. Remember to use your phonics to help with words you don't know. Once you are fluent with your reading, have a discussion with someone about your book. Here are some ideas of things you could discuss. There are also great tips on our website which can be found here.

If you have received a Read Theory login, you may also use this to practise your reading and comprehension. Try and do this once a week.

Maths:
Please practise your Numbots skills. If you have lost your login, let me know and I can send it home again.

Spelling - Year 2
In class we are establishing our spelling routines. We are learning lots about different speling rules and patterns as well as different groups of words. We practise these daily through our writing and spot them in our reading. To help at home, lots of talk about words, patterns and meanings will help. Point out interesting spellings in words and play word games whee you create a bank of words with the same patterns. Helping your hcild tune into words is a great way of helping them learn how to spell.

In Year 2 there are also some common exception words that we will be learning to spell. We will slowly build up these spellings across the year. Below, the ones we are learning so far can be found, and here is the full list of all the words.
  • beautiful
  • because
  • eyes
  • people
  • through
  • could
  • would
  • should
  • behind
  • find
  • kind
  • mind
  • child
  • children
  • both
  • most
  • only
  • improve
  • move
  • prove

Phonics - year 1:
In year 1 we are learning alternative spellings for the same sound. We are learning to read these mostly but also have a go at using them when we are writing. To help with this at home, try to spot and notice this in your child's school reading book with them. For example, goat, bone, gold all have the /oa/ sound in them but spelt in different ways.
