New this week…

Parent Pay - After School Clubs
Thank you to all those parents who have already settled their accounts, however please could we ask that any outstanding payments, particularly for any after school activity clubs are settled as soon as possible.

Headlice Nits
We have a significant outbreak of headlice in school, please can we ask everyone to check hair throughout families and treat all cases over the weekend. A reminder that a follow up treatment is needed a week later to ensure all eggs and lice are treated. A nit comb is also advisable to remove dead eggs and lice from hair after treatment.

Poppy Collection
From Thursday 6th November 2025 we will be collecting for the Royal British Legion in support of our Armed Forces.  Children are asked to bring any donations into school in an envelope with their name on, if you would like your child to get a specific item please also write this on the envelope. As well as poppies, there will be other poppy items for the children to choose from.
 

Suggested donations:
Paper Poppies or poppy stickers - any donation
Shiny Plastic Poppies (can hook on a bag or coat zip) - £50p each
Rulers which turn into wristbands, or fabric wristbands - £1.00 each
 
The children will be reflecting, sharing some of their poems and taking a moment of silence on Tuesday 11th November for Remembrance Day.
 

School Council Pyjama Appeal
Don’t you love the feeling of new fuzzy PJs? Not everyone gets to enjoy that feeling. Therefore, we are collecting new sets of pyjamas for the Clothing bank’s 'Pyjama Appeal'. We would love it if you could donate any new pyjamas to help those who don’t get that wonderful feeling at Christmas. You can donate PJs from now until Monday 1st December 2025. Please can it be new PJs only. Any ages. There is a bin on the playground to place them in. Thank you! 

Book sale - Funds raised
Kirkby Malzeard have managed to raise £105 from the Book sale, this is amazing considering the books were only 50p or £1.00.  We would like to thank everybody involved - we hope everyone enjoys their new books!

Children in Need
Sara Cox at Radio 2 is undertaking this year’s BBC Radio 2 Children in Need Challenge to raise money for children and young people across the UK.  Sara will be coming through Kirkby Malzeard on Thursday 13th November at around 2.10pm and we have been invited to line the streets and cheer her on!
Please see the letter sent out yesterday for further details.
 

On Friday 14th November we will be celebrating Children in need in school.  Children are invited to come dressed in yellow, or spots for a suggested donation of £1.00.  The theme this year is ‘Challenge yourself’ therefore school counsel will be putting on a selection of sporting challenges at lunchtime.  There is a suggested donation of £1.00 to take part in these challenges.
 

Forest School Friday
To support our Golden Threads, Helen will be running a morning forest school session for each class on a Friday morning. Dates are as follows:

Friday 21st November 2025 - Acorn
Friday 28th November 2025 - Oak
Friday 5th December 2025 - Palm
Friday 12th December 2025 - Cedar

hildren should come in comfy, warm clothes suitable for forest school. They will need long trousers, water proofs and wellies. Please send uniform in a bag for the afternoon session. 
 
Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news.  Attached is a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school.  There is a new sheet each week  -Take Home 6 Nov-pdf-  .

Waterproof coats
We have been caught out by showers a few times this week, we like to spend as much time outside as possible, children do need to have a waterproof coat with them every day.

News from the Wider Community…

Message from friends - Christmas craft session - 12th November
This year the Friends team and pupils are having a stall at the Kirkby Christmas fair to raise money for the school. To help make Christmas tree decorations to sell we are running a crafting session on Wednesday 12th November at Highside 3:30 - 5pm. This is open to KS1 & KS2 and there is something for all abilities so please come and help if you can.  All materials provided so just turn up! Children need to have an adult with them as this is not a drop off.  We hope to see you there!
