Weekly Update Friday 13th March 2026

09 Mar 2026

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Please note our weekly update will now be sent out on Friday mornings.

Changes to breakfast club provision:
As breakfast club is becoming increasingly popular, we have reviewed the provision to ensure we can continue to open this provision to everyone who needs this, and therefore will be making the following changes.
Breakfast club will continue to run from 7.30 am – 8.45 am but breakfast will only be served until 8am.
Should you wish for your child to have breakfast, they will need to arrive before this time. If you plan on dropping your child/ren after this time, please ensure they have had breakfast before they arrive to school.
These changes will be effective from Monday 16th March 2026.
Thank you for your support.

Parent ConsultationsWednesday 18th March
On behalf of the Governing Body, we would like to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining a polite and respectful tone during school meetings.
Open discussion is welcome and encouraged; however, it is essential that all conversations remain courteous and respectful so that meetings can be productive and positive for everyone involved.

Please book a time slot if you haven’t done so already.

Comic Relief, Red Nose Day - Friday 20th March
The theme for this Red Nose Day is 'Take Yourself Funny for Money' by taking life a little less seriously and poking fun at ourselves. With this in mind, school council would like to invite everyone to dress-up for a suggested donation of £1...Children are to come dressed as adults and adults are to come dressed as children for the day! They will also be hosting some fantastically funny taskmaster inspired activities over lunchtime suitable for all ages - suggested donation of £1 to join in with these.

Easter Sharing and Celebration Tea - Wednesday 25th March 2026 2.00pm at school
Just a reminder that are warmly invited to join us for a special Easter Sharing and Celebration Tea.
During this joyful gathering, we will celebrate Easter together and children are invited to share a special achievement if they wish to.
Your child may pick one personal achievement/award they are especially proud of. This will be a wonderful opportunity to share this with family and friends.
We look forward to sharing tea and treats, as we celebrate the children’s achievements together.

Class Collective Worship

Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached in a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school.

Spotlights from Learning…

Homework
Our class homework pages have been updated. Please take a moment to look at the page for your class. If you have any questions, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Poetry and word of the week
This week our word of the week is ‘whooping’
Our poem of the week is  - Written in March by William Wordsworth(1978)
-Poem of the week 13th March.docx-

Acorn Class
This week we have all been investigating castles and thinking what life might have been like for the people who built them and lived in them. We are all excited about our trip to Richmond Castle next week. Children in Year One have been learning to ‘debug’ algorithms in computing this week, I wonder if you can find any bugs to debug in algorithms at home?
We have all been thinking about primary colours and colour mixing, we can’t wait to see where our explorations in paint take us next week.

Oak Class
We have been getting creative in music this week and writing our own rhythms to be performed with percussion instruments or clapping, using 4 beats at a time.  Perhaps your child could write a rhythm for you to clap to at home.

Palm Class
This week Palm class have been thinking about rhythm and pitch in their music. They have made great progress with keeping in time with the rhythms and their musical ear is tuning into pitch beautifully. We have been warming up in our music lesson using a ‘top of the peeps’ game in which we have to copy and clap out a rhythm we have heard – perhaps you can play this at home.

Cedar Class
This week in Cedar we have enjoyed learning different dribbling skills and passes to use in basketball.  We have learnt how to find and run into space effectively to receive a pass and different ways to shield the ball from an opponent Why not ask your child to demonstrate a dribbling a ball while bouncing it and how to protect it from an opponent.

After school clubs

Year 6 Homework Club is cancelled next week due to parent consultations.

Due to the Bolton Castle trip arriving late back on Monday 2nd March, Guitar Club is being carried over to 13th April and Crafty Conservation Club on 20th April.

Book Club
In book club this half term we are looking at a non-fiction book, everyone who has signed up will be taking a copy of the book home today, please read it together at home ready to bring it and share your thoughts in Book Club on Thursday 26th March 3.30-4.30pm. As well as chatting about the book and sharing it together we will be doing some crafts to accompany the book.

Whizz Kids

Bus Booking Form W/C Monday 16th March 2026.
Please note this form needs to be submitted by Monday 16th March - 9.00am and we will no longer be accepting changes by phone or email.

Wellies and Trainers
We have noticed that some children’s feet have grown, please don’t forget to check wellies and trainers in school. Thank you.

Headlice/nits
We have several cases of headlice in school, please can you check your family’s hair and treat as necessary. Local pharmacists are a very helpful source of information and can advise on which treatment is currently the most effective in our area. Please follow the instructions on the treatment carefully and don’t forget to retreat your family, this is usually required a week after the first treatment.

Warm/Waterproof coats
It has been a little warmer and we have even seen the sun this week, however, we like to spend as much time outside as possible, children do need to have a warm waterproof coat with them every day to keep us warm, dry and happy outside.

Packed Lunches
Please can we remind parents of all children to continue to cut grapes and similar items such as cherry tomatoes to reduce the risk of choking for all children. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…

School Car Park - Please do not park in the school car park. This is for health and safety reasons as space is very limited. We appreciate your co-operation with keeping everyone safe.

Safety on site
A polite reminder to keep to the footpaths around the school site and avoid walking on the grass when arriving at and leaving the school site, several areas of grass near to the footpaths are now coned off as they are very slippery and dangerous.
A reminder that playing on the grass at the front of school and climbing on the walls is not safe for anyone and is therefore not allowed. Thank you for helping us too keep our children safe around school.
