Weekly Update Friday 20th March 2026

16 Mar 2026

 Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Please note our weekly update will now be sent out on Friday mornings.

Changes to breakfast club provision:
As breakfast club is becoming increasingly popular, we have reviewed the provision to ensure we can continue to open this provision to everyone who needs this, and therefore will be making the following changes.
Breakfast club will continue to run from 7.30 am – 8.45 am but breakfast will only be served until 8am.
Should you wish for your child to have breakfast, they will need to arrive before this time. If you plan on dropping your child/ren after this time, please ensure they have had breakfast before they arrive to school.
These changes will be effective from Monday 16th March 2026.
Thank you for your support.

Parent consultations - requests for new appointment times

Due to a high number of missed parent consultation appointments, we are unfortunately unable to offer additional appointment slots at this time in consideration of staff workload.
If we have any concerns regarding your child’s progress, we will contact you directly.
Thank you for your understanding.

Comic Relief, Red Nose Day - Friday 20th March
The theme for this Red Nose Day is 'Take Yourself Funny for Money' by taking life a little less seriously and poking fun at ourselves. With this in mind, school council would like to invite everyone to dress-up for a suggested donation of £1...Children are to come dressed as adults and adults are to come dressed as children for the day! They will also be hosting some fantastically funny taskmaster inspired activities over lunchtime suitable for all ages - suggested donation of £1 to join in with these.

Easter Sharing and Celebration Tea - Wednesday 25th March 2026 2.00pm at school
Just a reminder that are warmly invited to join us for a special Easter Sharing and Celebration Tea.
During this joyful gathering, we will celebrate Easter together and children are invited to share a special achievement if they wish to.
Please ensure any awards are in school no later than Monday 23rd March

KS2 Lost Property
Our lost property basket is over flowing with unnamed belongings. It is placed outside on the playground before and after school (weather dependent) - please take a moment to check if any of the belongings are your child’s. We will clear the basket over the holidays and any unclaimed belongings will be sent to charity or put in the bin.

Class Collective Worship

Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached in a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school.

Spotlights from Learning…

Homework
Our class homework pages have been updated. Please take a moment to look at the page for your class. If you have any questions, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Poetry and word of the week

Word of the week 'whizz'

In this poem, the word whizz captures the movement of the humming-bird rushing through the air as well as the sound it makes. Try saying whizz in a way that emphasises this speed and sound. Say it faster, say it slower, multiply the zeds, try something else – what works best? This kind of word is an imitative word, it imitates the sound the action makes. Can you think of any other words like this?
There are lots of imitative words. To explore them, click on the link below. Which imitative words do you like the most, which ones work best to convey the sound?

Acorn Class
We have had an amazing adventure at Richmond Castle this week exploring what it might have been like to actually live in a castle, we even had some stories about castle life sat at the top of the keep! We should all feel very proud of ourselves. We have started to plan our own stories inspired by ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ ready to write next week.

Oak Class
This week in Oak class, we have started to learn about the Easter story. As part of remembering the events of holy week we have created our own Easter tree with a different part of the story put on an Easter egg and then placed on the tree. Ask your child which part of the story they think is the most important for Christians and why.

Palm Class
We have been reflecting on working as a team in PSHE and how respect for each other is important. We have linked this specifically to respecting each other in a classroom setting. We thought about how our Christian values of love, kindness, patience and peace can help us show respect. We have a challenge for everyone in class to be recognised for each of the values before we break-up for Easter. Has your child been recognised? Have you spotted them being respectful at home?

Cedar Class
This week in Cedar we have loved revisiting the amazing art of Frida Kahlo who used lots of flowers and colour in her artwork. We have been inspired by Frida again, and we have therefore this week been experimenting with colour and objects which are important to us in our artwork and creating self-portraits using paint. Why not ask your child, what did they use in their self-portrait to represent themselves? Frida used flowers in her artwork to represent herself.

After school clubs

Due to the Bolton Castle trip arriving late back on Monday 2nd March, Guitar Club is being carried over to 13th April and Crafty Conservation Club on 20th April.

Book Club
In book club this half term we are looking at a non-fiction book, everyone who has signed up should have their book, please read it together at home ready to bring it and share your thoughts in Book Club on Thursday 26th March 3.30-4.30pm. As well as chatting about the book we will be sharing a biscuit while we natter before doing some crafts to accompany the book.

Whizz Kids
As there are various clubs running after half term we are asking that new Whizz Kids booking forms are sent into school if you haven’t already done this.

Wellies and Trainer
We have noticed that some children’s feet have grown, please don’t forget to check wellies and trainers in school. Thank you.

Headlice/nits
We have several cases of headlice in school, please can you check your family’s hair and treat as necessary. Local pharmacists are a very helpful source of information and can advise on which treatment is currently the most effective in our area. Please follow the instructions on the treatment carefully and don’t forget to retreat your family, this is usually required a week after the first treatment.

Warm/Waterproof coats
It has been a little warmer and we have even seen the sun this week, however, we like to spend as much time outside as possible, children do need to have a warm waterproof coat with them every day to keep us warm, dry and happy outside.

Packed Lunches
Please can we remind parents of all children to continue to cut grapes and similar items such as cherry tomatoes to reduce the risk of choking for all children. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…

School Car Park - Please do not park in the school car park. This is for health and safety reasons as space is very limited. We appreciate your co-operation with keeping everyone safe.

Safety on site
A polite reminder to keep to the footpaths around the school site and avoid walking on the grass when arriving at and leaving the school site, several areas of grass near to the footpaths are now coned off as they are very slippery and dangerous.
A reminder that playing on the grass at the front of school and climbing on the walls is not safe for anyone and is therefore not allowed. Thank you for helping us too keep our children safe around school.

Message from Keira in Year 6
🍅 Tomato Plant Sale 🍅
To help raise money for my trip to Switzerland with the Girlguides, I have been growing baby Sugarbell tomato plants from seed.
I now have lots of plants ready, and I am asking for kind donations (suggested donation £2.50) in exchange for a plant. 🌱🍅
I will be selling them on the school playground at 2pm pick-up on Friday 27th March.
If you can’t make it, you can message my mum, Helen, to reserve a plant (or more!) and arrange collection from my house or local delivery from Wednesday 25th.
Thank you so much for supporting me – it really means a lot! I am super excited about this trip and very grateful for your help.
Phone: 07921 220074 (Helen)
Thank you again,
Keira
