Spotlights from Learning…
Acorn Class
In year one this week we have been exploring non-standard and standard units of measure which has been lots of fun. I wonder if you could practise measuring using non-standard units and even centimetres to measure things at home.
In Reception we have been looking at even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. We have been using our fingers along with the stem sentence ‘2 is made from one and one, one and one make two.’ I wonder if you can show you families how to do this at home.
Oak Class
As part of our new writing topic (Little Red Reading Hood) a character who has love of books, we have been creating our own reading dens inside and outside the classroom. We enjoyed the cosy and quiet spaces we created to read in. If you visit to your local library, please do email in photos of your visit (thank you for the ones sent in already). Has your child made their own reading den at home yet? It was a little challenge we gave this week.
Palm Class
This week Palm class have set up a scientific enquiry. They are using their skills of comparative and fair testing to investigate if the amount of light affects the germination of a seed and how much it grows – I wonder if our predictions will be correct? I know some children have also been thinking about their learning about plants and their life cycles to help them grow seeds at home which is great to hear.
Cedar Class
Cedar class have had a great start to the new summer term, taking part in a science VR workshop exploring the universe we live in. Why not ask your child 'which is the hottest planet in our solar system?
Phonics and Reading
It was lovely to welcome so many families into school on Tuesday morning to share our love of reading with us, I heard so many interesting book chat conversations, poems about clouds and peas, chickens and dinosaurs, amazon rainforests and of course Bear and Bird! Thank you to everyone who joined us and an a huge thank you to our Friends group for funding the new non-fiction and graphic books that we have in our school library.
We would like to invite you to a phonics and reading drop in...
Do you have a question about reading or would like to know more, come to our reading and phonics drop in on

Next week on Tuesday 28th April during lunch break we will all be running, hopping, walking or jogging 2 miles around our school field, being part of this inspiring event is really special and the children will receive a certificate for taking part. Children will need a pair of trainers in school.
In taking part we hope that our children and young people will feel the benefits of being active and develop healthy habits for life – and maybe even become our marathon stars of the future!
Striking Games
Some Year 5/6 pupils took part in a Striking Games competition at Outwood on Wednesday, they had an amazing time and were super representatives of our school. We were asked to choose a few members of the team for their sportsmanship skills but we could have actually given the award to any of them! What an inspiration they are!

Headlice/nits
We have several cases of headlice in school, please can you check your family’s hair and treat as necessary. Local pharmacists are a very helpful source of information and can advise on which treatment is currently the most effective in our area. Please follow the instructions on the treatment carefully and don’t forget to retreat your family, this is usually required a week after the first treatment.
Warm/Waterproof coats
It has been a little warmer and we have even seen the sun this week, however, we like to spend as much time outside as possible, children do need to have a warm waterproof coat with them every day to keep us warm, dry and happy outside.
Packed Lunches
Please can we remind parents of all children to continue to cut grapes and similar items such as
cherry tomatoes to reduce the risk of choking for all children. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe.
Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…
School Car Park - Please do not park in the school car park. This is for health and safety reasons as space is very limited. We appreciate your co-operation with keeping everyone safe.
Safety on site
A polite reminder to keep to the footpaths around the school site and avoid walking on the grass when arriving at and leaving the school site, several areas of grass near to the footpaths are now coned off as they are very slippery and dangerous.
A reminder that playing on the grass at the front of school and climbing on the walls is not safe for anyone and is therefore not allowed. Thank you for helping us too keep our children safe around school.
