Sports Day – Thursday 21st May
Kirkby Malzeard World Cup: Sports Day 2026
Get your flags ready! We are turning our school field into a global stadium for a day of teamwork, skill, and world-class effort.
The Tournament Schedule
12.50 Stadium Gates Open: Find your spot in the spectator zone. Don’t forget to bring picnic blankets and chairs for comfort! The fan zone (refreshments) is open for drinks and cakes.
13.10 Opening Ceremony & Parade of Nations: The children will march out representing their allotted countries (as revealed in our big World Cup Draw on Friday 15th).
13.15 Global Skill Stations: Children rotate through challenges like the "Golden Boot", ‘Hand Ball’, and the ‘The Robot’. Spectators are invited to follow and cheer on.
14.00 Track Events: Get comfy in the spectator zone with your refreshments and your cheering voices ready for the ‘Dribbling Dash’ obstacle course, the ‘Kit-bag, bean bag’ race and the final "Golden Trophy" sprints.
15:00 The ‘Legends’ Parents' Race: We’re calling all adult "substitutes" for a quick sprint and ‘The Rising Stars’ race for all toddlers.
15.15 Trophy Presentation: We’ll award the Junior World Cup Trophy to the winning country.
What to Wear: "Kit Out" Day
To get into the spirit, all children are invited to come to school wearing their favourite football kit (or their own sportswear) for the day. Whether it's a club team or a national shirt, we want to see a sea of colour on the pitch!
The "Fan Zone" (Refreshments)
Our PTA will be running the "Fan Zone" gazebo to keep you fuelled:
World Cup Cake Stall
Hot & Cold Drinks
Extra Time
· Weather Watch: If the pitch is waterlogged, we’ll send an update via email by 8:15 AM.
· Sun & Hydration: Please ensure children have sunscreen applied, a hat to wear and have their water bottle in school
· Photography: You’re welcome to snap photos of your own superstars after the event, but please do not take any photos which include other children.
Let’s see which nation takes home the trophy!
Spotlights from Learning…
Acorn Class
We have been learning to ride our bikes in class this week which has been both fun and a challenge, we are going to keep up the hard work in the weeks to come, I wonder if you can keep practising at home as well. With sports day just around the corner we have also been challenging ourselves with our skipping, now that we have all learnt to skip we can now practise skipping backwards, skipping more times without stopping, doing skipping tricks, who can practise at home and maybe get our families skipping with us!
Oak Class
This week in Oak Class we have been learning to tell the time on an analogue clock. We have looked at reading the minute hand in intervals of 5 minutes past and to the hour. To help us draw hands on a clock accurately, we have described the position of the hour hand as it moves around the clock. Can you tell the time at home at different times of day?
Palm Class
We have been busy learning about the parts of a computer, including hardware and software. We have then put this into our own trifold leaflet. Why not ask your child to talk to you about some of the components – you could be surprised it might involve discussions around RAM and CPU!
Cedar Class
Cedar class have had a wonderful week in PE learning all about how to use our body position to help us strike objects into space when playing striking games. Why not ask your child to show you some of their striking skills in the garden?
Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached in a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school.

'I Want to Ride My Bike'
Acorn Class had a fantastic morning learning to ride a bike with Dave, we have made lots of progress and have plenty of things to work on and practise at school and at home.
Dave has passed on an important safety reminder –
bike helmets and scooter helmets are designed differently for different purposes. A scooter helmet is not suitable to wear while riding a bike as it does not provide protection for the front of the head if a child falls over the handlebars- this is the most common bike fall.

I’m running the Leeds marathon this Sunday, with team Flatt . As a team we will be pushing 2 people (Ian and Phil) in their running buggy’s who are living with motor neurones disease.
I support Ian with all his care needs 3 days a week, a truly inspiring family, raising funds for the Leeds hospital charity who supported us when our daughter was poorly and also the new Rob burrow centre at seacroft hospital.
Kind regards
