03 Jun 2026
Our Vision
We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.
New this week…
Spotlights from Learning…
Acorn
This week, we have begun
‘30 Days Wild’, a lovely initiative for June arranged by the Wildlife Trust. Families are invited to take part at home as well;
Explore 30 Days Wild.
In Early Years, the children have been learning to use a
Rekenrek, applying their subitising and understanding of number structure during their Mastering Number work, I wonder if they can find any opportunities to subitise to 5 at home? Year 1 have been comparing the value of coins and enjoying their ‘penny shops’, perhaps you could set up a shop at home?
Oak Class
This week, Oak Class have begun learning about special times for Muslim people. We explored the month of Ramadan, when many Muslims fast, pray, and focus on kindness and helping others. We learned that it ends with a joyful celebration called Eid al-Fitr. The children explored how Eid is celebrated around the world, including spending time with family, sharing meals, giving to those in need, and wearing special clothes. They then created memory boxes inspired by these traditions. Ask your child what they included in their Eid memory box!
Palm Class
Palm class have started a new unit of writing - it is a narrative based on a paper boat. We had great fun having a go at making our own boats and exploring all the emotions attached to this. This is really going to help us create some fabulous stories with strong emotive language. We also explored helping each other with these boats - I wonder if your child could who you at home? How does it feel doing it together?
Cedar Class
In Cedar class this week we have been welcoming our visitors from Thailand to class and sharing lots of different elements of our culture, while also learning fabulous things about Thai culture. Why not ask your child how to say 'Hello' in Thai.
Class Collective Worship
Each week one of our Collective Worship sessions takes place in class with a focus on something in the news. Attached in a take home that you might like to think about and share with your child at home, there is no need to return this to school.

Reminders…
Fountains Abbey Trip
Polite reminder - Parent Pay is available for payment of this trip.
Year 4 Multiplication Check - update
The year 4’s will be taking part in the government multiplication tables check w/c 8
th June. They have worked very hard at these all year and have some great knowledge around the tables. We have been practising plenty to make sure these facts are fluent. Please support your child to practise these as much as possible (daily if they can) so they don't lose their fluency.
Phonics Screening Check 2026
In June, all children in Year 1, along with any Year 2 pupils who did not meet the expected standard in the previous year, will participate in the national, statutory DfE Phonics Screening Check.
This assessment takes the form of a brief, one-to-one session with the class teacher. During the check, children are invited to read a total of forty words. Some of these are familiar, real words, while others are “alien” or nonsense words, designed to assess their ability to apply phonics skills rather than rely on memory.
We spend a considerable amount of time and attention each day to developing and applying our phonics knowledge, and we are very proud of the children’s growing confidence. Guidance on the pronunciation of pure phonemes may be found here:
Support for Phonics (Little Wandle).
Further information regarding the DfE Phonics Screening Check is available here:
Phonics Screening Check: Information for Parents. In addition, a brief information leaflet will be sent home with all children taking part in the check. If you have any questions please ask Mrs Pawson.
PE days
Acorn - Tuesday (please come dressed in your PE kit)
Oak – Friday
Palm - Friday (some weeks next half term, Palm class will do PE on a Monday. Please can children bring their PE kits in on a Monday each week, in case our lesson is not on the Friday that week. Thank you!
Cedar – Friday
Coats and sun cream
As we have seen this week the weather can be somewhat unreliable, please can all children come to school with a waterproof coat every day, they might also need a sunhat. Please can children come to school wearing sun cream ready for the day as we are often outside. If children need to re-apply sun cream this should be handed to your child’s teacher in a named bottle, they need to be able to apply cream independently. Please check the ingredients carefully as often sun creams contain nut oils.
Bus Booking Form W/C Monday 8th June 2026.
Please note this form needs to be submitted by Monday 8
th June - 9.00am and we will no longer be accepting changes by phone or email.
Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…

Please can we remind parents of all children to continue to cut grapes and similar items such as
cherry tomatoes to reduce the risk of choking for all children. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our children safe.
