Weekly update week commencing Tuesday 2nd May 2023

Mrs P Phillips - 27 Apr 2023

Weekly Updates

Good morning,
Please see below for any updates for the week ahead.

Change to dates
The PTA fun run (sponsored run/walk) has been rescheduled to Thursday 8th June at 3.30pm.

Bank holiday - just a reminder that school will be closed on Monday 1st May for May Day Bank Holiday.

In school next week,

Community lunch club
Some of our children have volunteered to go and serve at the community lunch club next Tuesday. Miss Oates will be in touch if your child has been chosen.

Swimming
Swimming lessons are on a Wednesday for Acorn Class.
Children will need:
Swim cap (These can be bought from the swimming baths, please send £1.00 in an envelope labelled with your child’s name)
One-piece costume for girls and shorts for boys (no baggy board shorts please).
Towel
Goggles (optional)
Long hair tied up

Swim lesson return time:
Due to a change in lesson time, the children will be a few minutes late returning to school from swimming at the end of the day. Estimated return time from swimming for collection is between 3.35-3.40pm.

Bus times:
The swim bus is also the bus which delivers children home to Laverton and Dallowgill. Therefore, please note that the return of the bus children home on each Wednesday this term may also be delayed by 5-10 minutes.

Payments for swimming and Parent Pay.
All payments have been added to your account. We thank parents in advance for settling these as soon as possible.

Forest School
Cedar class will be doing forest school sessions each Wednesday afternoon. Children should wear old, comfortable clothes and wellies or trainers for this along with waterproof trousers and coats.

Forest School Friday
To support our Golden Thread further, Helen will be running a morning forest school session for each class on a Friday based around staying spiritually and mentally healthy. Dates are as follows:

Palm Class – 5.5.23
Cedar Class 12.5.23

Children should wear old, comfortable clothes and wellies or trainers for this along with waterproof trousers and coats.

Lambs
Next week we shall be welcoming lambs into school to support our curriculum 'sheep tracking'.  Ryedale Animal Group will be delivering workshops to both KS1 and KS2 pupils in the morning.  Animal Therapy is widely recognised as being of huge help in the treatment of mental health issues and there is no better animal than a sheep, even better a flock!

Oak class will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the lambs and will have the opportunity to take part in bottle feeding them.

Palm and Cedar will also have an interactive session with the lambs with the opportunity to get up close and personal with them.

Bikes ‘I want to ride my bike’ (Years 2 & 3)
Year 2 and 3 children will begin their bike lessons this week on Wednesday the 3rd May 2023.  If your child has a helmet they can bring it – do not worry if they don’t, we have spares.  If your child wants to bring their own bike, they can, but if not, we have plenty of bikes for them to ride.

Thank you for your help with this, the children and adults are having an amazing time, and it gets our Golden Thread for this half term off to a flying start!

Our Golden thread to 'be spiritually, mentally and physically healthy'.

If you need any further help, please email gpawson@kirkbymalzeard.n-yorks.sch.uk or see her in person.

Tri Golf Festival
A selection of pupils from Year 3 and 4 will be representing Kirkby Malzeard at Tri Golf on Thursday 4th May 2023.  Mr Anson will be sending out emails next week with further information to the parents of those children involved.

The Coronation of King Charles
A couple of our pupils are busy planning coronation celebrations for the school on Friday 5th May. More details to follow next week.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates

Social Media Safety
This recently published video by financial times films, gives an important insight to the impact of social media on our children and our family life. The video is well worth a watch. It has been used with parent groups, and they were shocked. The video led them to reconsider how they talk to their children about their social media use. You can find the video on YouTube by following the link below:
