Weekly update week commencing Monday 26th June 2023

Mrs P Phillips - 22 Jun 2023

Weekly Updates

Good Afternoon,

New this week,

The safety of our children
The safety of our children is our highest priority.  Over recent weeks a few things have caused us concern. Please can we ask that the staff carpark is only used by staff at all times; it is not a safe area for dropping off, or collecting children.  If you need help accessing the school, please discuss this with a member of the senior leadership team (Mrs Taylor, Mrs Pawson and Miss Oates) who will help to make alternative arrangements.

Please can we remind everybody that the classrooms open at 8.45am.  Children must not be left unattended on the school site before this time.  Whizz Kids is available for wrap around care, please book your child in via the office.  If your child is walking to school independently, please ensure that they are not arriving on the school site prior to 8.45am.

Sadly, it has come to our attention that a six year old child had to be airlifted to hospital recently after being hit by a car at 8.50am, outside Fountains primary school in Grantley.  The child suffered serious leg injuries.  Please can we ask everyone in our community to be extra aware of how we drive and park in our village.  Can we remind people that Manor Court is not a suitable place to park and drop off children.  As we have previously shared with you, the planning permission for our footpath clearly states that we cannot use Manor Court for parking or dropping off children.

Sports Day Afternoon
Our Sports Afternoon starts at 1.30pm on Tuesday 27th June.  Refreshments for parents and carers will be available from 1.00pm on the school field.  We would like to thank Friends for supporting us with this.  Children will be able to pre-order a hotdog to eat at the end of Sports Afternoon, please see the message from Friends below.

Children need to come to school on Tuesday 27th June wearing full PE kit.  If your child would like to wear a t-shirt of their dale colour, they may do so. (Nidderdale = yellow, Swaledale = blue, Wensleydale = red)

Please ensure children have a sun hat, sun cream and a water bottle.

Reminders,

All children need to come to school with a sun hat and a waterproof coat as our weather can be unpredictable.  Children without a coat will not be able to play outside in the rain.

School Photographs
We are welcoming Rachel-Evelyn from Sweetpea Photography on â€‹Monday 10th July 2023.  Rachel comes recommended by Nikki Mitchel who has done our school photos in previous years.   Rachel will be working with both School and Pre-school during the day to take photos of the children individually and with their siblings. As well as a group photo of our Year 6 children.

KS2 Production
KS2 children have now been given their parts for the summer production of ‘The island that rocks’. We would appreciate your support in helping your child learn any lines they have at home. The production will be led by Cedar class with Palm class supporting. Information about costumes will be coming out to children soon.  Please see the school website for performance dates.

Swimming lessons are on a Wednesday for Acorn Class.
Children will need:

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates

Sun safety
Finally, we have some sunshine! We are delighted but it is important we keep the children safe during these sunny periods. Please ensure your child has the following on hot sunny days to keep them safe: sun hat/cap, water bottle and suncream applied before arriving at school.  If you wish, you may also provide your child with suncream to top-up at school; this needs to be a named bottle and your child will need to apply it themselves (adults will supervise and support as necessary for each age-group). Please take extra care to ensure your suncream does not contain any nut ingredients or extracts - thank you.
