11 May 2023

Weekly Updates

Good afternoon,
Please see below for any updates for the week ahead.

Year 6 SATs
We are extremely proud of our school community this week, they have supported our Year 6 pupils and helped to keep our school day calm and happy. We have seen everyone ‘shine like stars’ and this has made us all feel inspired and proud. Year 6 all deserve a restful and fun weekend- they have worked very hard!

In school next week,

Year 2 SATs
Starting Monday 15th May, Year 2 children will be sitting their SATs over a couple weeks. These are less formal than our Year 6 SATs and children will work in a small group with Miss Oates. No preparation is needed other than plenty of sleep, fun and reading for pleasure! As a school community we wish them a calm and successful couple of weeks. If your child is in Year 2 and you have any questions, please see Miss Oates in person.

Oak and Acorn Reading
Oak and Acorn reading will return to normal this week with children reading in school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They will bring their books home on Wednesday to celebrate at home with you. Please return books on Friday. All children continue to bring home their own choice of reading for pleasure books, please read them to them at home.

Acorn Plant Sale
Acorn class have been nurturing some indoor plants and we would like to sell them to raise money to buy more seeds to grow.  Our plant sale will take place this Friday (12th May) on the school playground at 3.30pm.  Please come and support us, everyone is welcome.

Dynamo Cricket Festival
A small group of KS2 children will be attending the Dynamo Cricket Festival next week at North Stainley Cricket Ground, we will be in touch with families directly with arrangements for this.

Due to a change in lesson time, the children will be a few minutes late returning to school from swimming at the end of the day. Estimated return time from swimming for collection is between 3.35-3.40pm.

The swim bus is also the bus which delivers children home to Laverton and Dallowgill. Therefore, please note that the return of the bus children home on each Wednesday this term may also be delayed by 5-10 minutes.

Social Media Safety
This recently published video by financial times films, gives an important insight to the impact of social media on our children and our family life. The video is well worth a watch. It has been used with parent groups, and they were shocked. The video led them to reconsider how they talk to their children about their social media use. You can find the video on YouTube by following the link below:
